Commercial copper production, debt retirement and added board experience mark Gunnison’s October update. A proposed NYSE American listing would add a U.S. exchange trading route, and Jennifer Hays joined as CFO on October 12.
Gunnison announced on October 5 that it had received pre-clearance for a proposed NYSE American listing under GUNN, targeting late-October trading subject to SEC registration effectiveness and final listing approvals. The planned American depositary receipts (ADRs) would each represent 35 common shares, with the existing shares continuing to trade in Toronto under GCU. If completed, the new listing would give U.S. investors a U.S.-dollar, exchange-listed way to invest in the Arizona company already producing copper cathode at Johnson Camp.

Johnson Camp reached commercial production in September after its strongest month since the restart. The Arizona mine produced 1,304,448 pounds of copper cathode in August, followed by 894,767 pounds from September 1 through September 17. Gunnison announced the milestone on September 22, based on throughput, product quality and sustained, reliable operation. The ramp toward annual nameplate capacity of up to 25 million pounds continues.

Copper joined the U.S. critical-minerals list in November 2025. At Johnson Camp, the product is cathode: refined copper that a fabricator can turn into other forms. In the electrowinning circuit, copper dissolved in solution plates onto stainless-steel blanks. The deposits are then harvested, washed, stripped, weighed and packaged. Smelting and refining would still lie ahead for a concentrate producer. Johnson Camp completes that refinement onsite.

For electrical wire, cathode is melted, cast and rolled into rod before drawing. Copper’s high conductivity allows current to pass with relatively little resistance; resistance converts part of the electrical energy into heat. Dissolved impurities can reduce conductivity, so refined-material quality matters alongside tonnage.

More feed for Johnson Camp
September’s revised agreement with Nuton adds approximately 3 million tons of mineralized material to Johnson Camp’s Stage 2 mine plan. The material is expected to be mined in 2027–2029 within the existing demonstration period. Gunnison says the change supports operating continuity and retention of its experienced workforce.

The revised plan also brings an agreed US$8 million payment from Nuton, which Gunnison expects in the fourth quarter.

Copper sales contribute directly to the agreed Stage 2 work at Johnson Camp. Under the arrangement described in the June financial statements, Nuton funds the program subject to its election to continue, with copper receipts reducing its required contribution. Any excess net revenue over expenditures is repaid to Nuton quarterly. This ties the copper receipts to Johnson Camp’s operating program; financing the separate flagship has its own requirements.

Arizona’s Qualified Facility Tax Credit program adds a separate expected receipt: US$1.62 million in the fourth quarter of 2026, for 81 qualifying jobs created in 2025. A further US$0.38 million in the fourth quarter of 2027 depends on the 19 additional qualifying jobs the company expects to create in 2026.

Debt retirement, leadership and the flagship
Gunnison reported no remaining outstanding debt on October 1, after Triple Flag converted US$1.5 million of remaining principal into 7,894,736 common shares and US$545,753 of accrued interest into another 1,641,193 shares. The transaction increased the share count without raising new cash and fully settled the remaining debenture.

Gunnison also appointed Andre Lauzon to its board on October 1. The former Hudbay chief operating officer brings more than 30 years in mine development, construction and operations, including leadership of its Arizona business unit. His work there included project optimization, permitting and major capital investment. In its announcement, Gunnison links that experience to the flagship’s next engineering and development stages.

Jennifer Hays became chief financial officer on October 12, following the September 28 appointment announcement. She was most recently CFO of PacSci EMC, an operating company within Ralliant, after approximately 17 years in senior finance roles at Intel.

For the flagship Gunnison Project, the September 17 update reported submission of an amendment to the Mined Land Reclamation Plan for the planned open-pit operation. The company expects a decision before year-end, following review; water and air permit amendments follow later engineering and application schedules. A potential mid-2028 investment decision depends on the necessary approvals and a completed feasibility study. The proposed relocation of Interstate 10, which crosses the project area, has its own parallel planning and approval process.

The commercial-production milestone gives investors an operating asset to assess alongside Gunnison’s flagship development potential. Johnson Camp is already turning mined material into refined cathode, and the planned 2027–2029 feed is intended to sustain that capability. The distinction is useful: the flagship’s future scale remains a development proposition, while Johnson Camp contributes copper in a form ready for melting, casting and wiremaking. Sustained cathode production would extend Gunnison’s role at the start of the manufacturing chain that turns Arizona copper into electrical conductors.

Cautionary Note Regarding Forward-Looking Information
Where this article discusses future events, those statements are forward-looking information rather than established results. Depending on the matters discussed, they include anticipated production and capacity; Nuton technology, Stage 2 funding and work programs; expected payments or tax-credit receipts; exploration, engineering, permitting and project development; preliminary economic assessment or pre-feasibility outcomes and schedules; anticipated contributions from personnel; and a proposed NYSE American listing or ADR program. Such expectations depend on the assumptions in the cited company disclosures, including continued partner funding, adequate financing, resource estimates and recoveries, metal prices, project and operating costs, access to labour and supplies, and receipt of required permits and regulatory or exchange approvals. Actual outcomes and timing may differ materially because of funding or liquidity constraints, operational or construction difficulties, cost changes, commodity-market conditions, estimation uncertainty, environmental or title issues, personnel changes, or delayed or refused approvals. Capacity, development plans and study estimates are not guaranteed production; expected receipts are not cash already received; and listing pre-clearance is not final listing approval. Readers should consider the assumptions, conditions and risk discussions in the linked company announcements and current filings alongside the relevant statements.
