U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and Congressman Juan Ciscomani visited Gunnison Copper’s producing Johnson Camp Mine in Cochise County, Arizona, on October 20, the company announced on October 22. The visit came a month after Gunnison announced commercial production at the mine.

American copper in a usable form
Johnson Camp produces finished copper cathode onsite. Gunnison’s September announcement described a ramp toward nameplate capacity of up to 25 million pounds a year, with copper finished at the mine without offshore smelting and refining. Nameplate capacity describes the plant’s design rate; sustained output depends on the ramp. The operation brings a domestic source of refined metal to the next stage of manufacturing.
Copper, included on the United States’ final 2025 critical-minerals list, combines high electrical conductivity with ductility. Current passes readily through the metal, and it can be drawn into wire. Those properties work together in electrical transmission and building wiring, where a conductor must carry current and take the physical form the installation needs. Cathode is refined feed for that manufacturing chain; fabricators turn it into the conductors and other forms used downstream.

Patriots Plaza honors country and service
The visit marked the dedication of Gunnison Copper Patriots Plaza, named by employees to honor country, service and members of the U.S. Armed Forces. The plaza features U.S., Arizona and company flags, with six plaques recognizing the military branches. Burgum, Ciscomani and Gunnison President and CEO Craig Hallworth took part in the ribbon-cutting.

Employees, government officials and community leaders gathered for the dedication. The visit also included a production blast and discussions about advancing the separate Gunnison Copper Project.

Employee ownership plans
Alongside the event, Gunnison outlined planned one-time equity awards targeting US$2,500 for each eligible permanent employee. These are expected to be restricted share units, vesting after 12 months of continued employment and subject to program terms.

Gunnison also plans a voluntary Employee Share Purchase Plan for eligible permanent employees. It would allow share purchases through payroll deductions at a 15% discount to market value, subject to plan terms. The US$2,500 annual limit applies to each employee’s discount benefit, not the amount contributed to purchase shares.
Anticipated NYSE American listing

The company anticipates its NYSE American trading debut on or about October 26, 2026. It expects its Level II American Depositary Receipts, or ADRs, to trade under GUNN, with each ADR representing 30 common shares. Gunnison says the planned listing is intended to broaden access for U.S. institutional and retail investors. It is not associated with an equity financing and would not result in additional common shares being issued.
The useful follow-through is sustained output from the ramp. More cathode from Johnson Camp would mean more copper refined in Arizona for the manufacturing steps that come next, where its conductivity and ability to be drawn into wire become working electrical conductors.
Qualified Person: company source
Gunnison's September 22, 2026 commercial-production announcement identifies its Senior VP of Project Development, Dr. Roland Goodgame, as a Qualified Person under NI 43-101 and attributes approval of that announcement's technical content to him. This statement concerns that company news release; it does not claim that Dr. Goodgame reviewed or approved this SilverWars article.
Cautionary Note Regarding Forward-Looking Information
In this article, forward-looking statements concern the production ramp, further project development, both planned employee ownership programs and the anticipated NYSE American listing. The general caution below also lists categories that are not reported as new developments here.
Where this article discusses future events, those statements are forward-looking information rather than established results. Depending on the matters discussed, they include anticipated production and capacity; Nuton technology, Stage 2 funding and work programs; expected payments or tax-credit receipts; exploration, engineering, permitting and project development; preliminary economic assessment or pre-feasibility outcomes and schedules; anticipated contributions from personnel; and a proposed NYSE American listing or ADR program. Such expectations depend on the assumptions in the cited company disclosures, including continued partner funding, adequate financing, resource estimates and recoveries, metal prices, project and operating costs, access to labour and supplies, and receipt of required permits and regulatory or exchange approvals. Actual outcomes and timing may differ materially because of funding or liquidity constraints, operational or construction difficulties, cost changes, commodity-market conditions, estimation uncertainty, environmental or title issues, personnel changes, or delayed or refused approvals. Capacity, development plans and study estimates are not guaranteed production; expected receipts are not cash already received; and listing pre-clearance is not final listing approval. Readers should consider the assumptions, conditions and risk discussions in the linked company announcements and current filings alongside the relevant statements. A future event is not assured merely because it appears in this article.
