The Role of Silver in Self-Lubricating Coatings for Use at Extreme Temperatures

This NASA study explains that silver’s high melting point (961 °C), ductility, and chemical stability make it effective in self-lubricating coatings from low temperatures to about 900 °C, especially when alloyed or combined with fluorides or carbides to reduce friction, wear, and deformation.
